Review of Mission Workshop's Bosun Jacket by llama

I am usually more of technical fabric wearing fella. Love me some Gore-Tex and Windstopper, but it turns out, I also love me some Merino wool too. The Mission Workshop Bosun is an great jacket. Not only does it perform well on bike, it also looks good doing it. And when two wheels are not under you, it does not look like a bike specific piece, so neither do you. (Except your bag, shoes, and helmet may still give you away.) The Mission Workshop Bosun has two stow pockets, one on the back left and one inside breast right. Add a couple reinforced patches on the shoulders and elbows and you have yourself a pretty sweet jacket. This jacket is not windproof, but it does a fine job of keeping me warm with a base layer, or a thermal layer for the colder days. The jacket is in stock at Village Cycle Center and if you don't feel like coming down to the store, there is $5 flat rate shipping available now.

Mission Workshop The Bosun Merino Wool Jacket

The Bosun mid-weight Merino riding jacket is perfect for those chilly fall mornings. Layers nicely with the Orion waterproof shell.

The jacket is made from New Zealand Merino wool woven with a stretch Lycra fiber for greater mobility. The Bosun has one internal chest pocket, a touring-style rear pocket and one internal ported media pocket. It is cut slightly longer in the back and has reinforced shoulders and elbows made from military-spec 4-way stretch fabric from the USA.

Made up there in Canada.

Review by Scott N. from Yelp

- 8/24/2011 - by Scott N. from Yelp

Having purchased my mountain bike there a few years ago, I'm giving VC a 5-star rating today based on a pair of fantastic experiences I've enjoyed over the last three weeks. Most recently, I had a great interaction with one of the bike fitting/sales specialists, Evan. I had borrowed and brought my buddy's bike in with me to get a new tube and lube for the triathlon, and was hoping the crew might help me adjust the seat. Not only did Evan adjust all the specs for free, he had me ride on the stationary bike to ensure my form was correct, he twice tweaked the pitch and position of the seat to make sure it was perfect, adjusted the pedal straps to better fit my shoes, greased down the chain, gave lots of instruction on the gear shifting, etc. In short, Evan was the ultimate equipment coach, which I really needed. He didn't push any sales, and made my experience there fantastic. BTW, be sure to print off the $20 coupon the next time you take a bike there for servicing, as they gladly accept it, based on my earlier experience there with the mountain bike this month.

After getting hit by a car on a bike, the last thing you want to do is try to get the bike fixed. After calling lots of Bike Stores and being told that getting parts was basically not worth their time, I found a one that said yes, they had parts in stock, but they didn't, after several day of bs, I called my previous bike store in St.Louis, and they recommended I call Village Cycle. He even called ahead and told the Manager of Village cycle I would be calling. When I did, I was well received, they had a wheel in stock, fixed me up and sold me the tire at cost. I ended up buying a new helmet, with lights on it, and several other items. I felt taken care of. They got the bike running again. That is what I wanted. I was grateful for the honest straightforward approach. I am told by others they are expensive, I found the value and the service to be inline with prices in St.Louis and else where. I would recommend these guys to anyone.

The bell helmet I bought that works with the Blackburn FLEA light set up should be required for riders. Hopefully next time I will be seen and avoid the accident as a result of these new Items. You should go buy this from them today.

Gore Bike Wear GORE-TEX® Active Shell Fusion Rain Kit

I love the new Fusion Pant and Fusion Jacket made from GORE-TEX® Active Shell . The GORE-TEX® Active Shell is amazing. It is light, it breathes well, and it's waterproof. The new Active Shell also does not feel clammy against your skin. Hot damn! Breathable and waterproof? How is that possible you ask? The answer is science! Air is a smaller molecule then water, and with the right membrane, air can pass through it, while water can not. Think of a chain link fence, a golf ball will pass through it, while a baseball will not. Check the video on the Gore-Tex membrane here. The jacket and pant have a great fit with stretchy Gore-Tex where you need it. Jacket includes a built in under the helmet hood that doesn't have you sweating just from use. Well placed, slender vents on the pants work well and do not allow much water in while open. Another huge plus is that both jacket and pant are very packable and stow into their own pockets. Combine this kit with some Gore Bike Wear City Overshoes and a pair of Mistral gloves, and you are set. We stock all of these products and more in our store, or you can shop online at www.villagecycle.com.
