Moved to the city this past summer and knew right away that I wanted to get a bike.  Once the finances got settled, not knowing anything about bikes or riding in the city, I hit up the closest bike shop I knew - Village Cycle. Walking into the shop, I had the same feeling as when I first walked into a running store - out. of. place. I had no idea where to begin. Luckily for me, Bill was watching out for wanderers such as myself, and he took me under his wing.  He asked me a lot of good, defining questions which helped him to be able to show me bikes that fit my needs (mainly commuting, exercise). He spent a good hour with me that first day, and when I told him that I wasn't ready to buy that day, he told me it was no big deal and ensured me he just loved helping beginners out.  Unlike other sales peeps who do everything in their power to keep you from leaving without a sale, Bill asked for my name, gave me his card and shook my hand goodbye.

A week later, after doing some extra homework, I returned, found Bill, and bought a Trek 7.3FX.  It was one of the bikes Bill had shown me the week before and, after doing some checking up on some online reviews, I knew it was an excellent bike for the price (2011 model at 20% off).  Bill answered all the rest of my questions and spent another hour or so with me. All the time he was patient with dumb questions and excited to get me on my new ride!

Since the bike had to be built, I returned a couple days later and picked my bike up! The service guys were cool and showed me all the essentials. After waiting for a bit (not the store's fault, the registers were down) I was finally off on the road.

Though still getting to know the bike and city riding, I love the 7.3! It's super light, fast, quiet and smooth. The seat is a bit hard, but, overall, the bike is outstanding! I can't wait to get it out for longer rides and explore parts of the city I haven't gotten to explore yet!

 Apparently this is the biggest bike shoppe in the world.  The floor isn't huge but they own all five floors of the building or something like that and have every bike every made ever in the world ever.  I went here with my dad who is 6"5 and Evan took a lot of time finding and fitting a bike that would help him recover from double knee replacement.  The staff are always giggling about something and at any given moment there are several attractive people walking around in bike shorts.  In all, seems like a pretty great work environment.  It's nice to have people openly and honestly talk to you about which bike seat is best for your "ahem, perineum" who really enjoy what they are doing.  Nothing worse than straddling a roadie while a disgruntled bike shop employee "checks your angles", am I right?  This is a good joint.

I had an amazing experience at Village Cycle. I worked with a salesman named Joel. He asked a number of questions about what I would be using my bike for, where I lived, what kind of trails/roads i would be riding on, etc. he kept my choices within my price range, and gave me exactly what I was looking for. The coupon on yelp was easy to use, and the woman at the register was very familiar with it, which made checkout fast and easy. After the bike was built, the guys in the back answered questions I didn't even know I had. They made sure I knew the bike inside and out before I left. I was very happy with my experiences with the entire staff, and would definitely send my friends there.

Very accommodating staff. Took the time to answer my questions and explain the differences between the various products I was interested in. I left feeling like I got a fair deal and that I was important to them as a customer. Can't ask for much more than this out of a retail operation.

Having purchased my mountain bike there a few years ago, I'm giving VC a 5-star rating today based on a pair of fantastic experiences I've enjoyed over the last three weeks. Most recently, I had a great interaction with one of the bike fitting/sales specialists, Evan. I had borrowed and brought my buddy's bike in with me to get a new tube and lube for the triathlon, and was hoping the crew might help me adjust the seat. Not only did Evan adjust all the specs for free, he had me ride on the stationary bike to ensure my form was correct, he twice tweaked the pitch and position of the seat to make sure it was perfect, adjusted the pedal straps to better fit my shoes, greased down the chain, gave lots of instruction on the gear shifting, etc. In short, Evan was the ultimate equipment coach, which I really needed. He didn't push any sales, and made my experience there fantastic. BTW, be sure to print off the $20 coupon the next time you take a bike there for servicing, as they gladly accept it, based on my earlier experience there with the mountain bike this month.

After getting hit by a car on a bike, the last thing you want to do is try to get the bike fixed. After calling lots of Bike Stores and being told that getting parts was basically not worth their time, I found a one that said yes, they had parts in stock, but they didn't, after several day of bs, I called my previous bike store in St.Louis, and they recommended I call Village Cycle. He even called ahead and told the Manager of Village cycle I would be calling. When I did, I was well received, they had a wheel in stock, fixed me up and sold me the tire at cost. I ended up buying a new helmet, with lights on it, and several other items. I felt taken care of. They got the bike running again. That is what I wanted. I was grateful for the honest straightforward approach. I am told by others they are expensive, I found the value and the service to be inline with prices in St.Louis and else where. I would recommend these guys to anyone.

The bell helmet I bought that works with the Blackburn FLEA light set up should be required for riders. Hopefully next time I will be seen and avoid the accident as a result of these new Items. You should go buy this from them today.
